Content and Learning Objectives:
The curriculum was divided into various segments, each targeted at teaching a specific aspect of architectural drafting. The fundamental segments dealt with the basic elements and principles of drafting such as lines, angles, scale, and units of measurement.
Next, we explored the interpretation of architectural plans and specifications. This involved learning the meaning of symbols, abbreviations, and notations commonly used in architectural drawings. The knowledge was then applied to analyze a variety of plans, elevations, sections, and details for different architectural structures.
A significant part of the course was dedicated to the study of Computer-Assisted Drafting (CAD), a modern tool widely used in the field of architecture. This involved familiarization with CAD software, understanding its functionalities, and applying it to create detailed, accurate, and high-quality architectural drawings. The CAD module culminated in producing a range of drawings including floor plans, elevations, and sections using CAD software.
Course Outcome
By the end of the course, I was able to competently interpret a set of architectural plans for a single-family wood-frame housing project. This marked the achievement of the course's final objective. The skills and knowledge I acquired from the course have not only expanded my understanding of architectural drafting but also improved my proficiency in utilizing CAD software for architectural design.
Moving forward, I am confident in my ability to apply these learnings in real-world scenarios. Whether it's interpreting complex architectural drawings or crafting detailed plans for a housing project, this course has equipped me with the technical skills needed to excel in the field of architecture.
